Microsoft Australia is trying to lure Aussies to buy Office 2007 with petrol.
Buying Office 2007 (most consumer oriented packs but not volume licenses or pre-installed with a computer ) between 1 May 2008 and 31 July 2008 then you can apply for a $40 petrol card.
The method of redemption has a twist - you fill in a redemption form online and get a redemption number via email. Then you send in the receipt and redemption number. Your petrol card will be sent within 60 days.
The amount of the petrol card is fixed regardless of whether you buy the cheapest Office 2007 bundle or the one over 4 times more expensive. The petrol card can only be used at a particular brand of gas station.
The promotion dates cleverly straddles the Australian financial year (which ends on 30 June) so people can buy Office and deduct the cost in this years return or next.
Probably the biggest problem with the promotion is the amount. $40 probably seemed a good amount when this was planned many months ago - now petrol prices have gone up significantly - $40 of petrol might not be enough to cover the drive to buy Office!
The promotion isn't a good reason to buy Office 2007 on it's own, but if you're going to buy anyway you may as well claim your $40.
